Happy One Year Anniversary!

Pepper and I are celebrating our one year anniversary!!

Ok, actually it was a couple of weeks ago, November 4th, but life has been pretty busy over here at Chez Ginger and he blogging has been pushed to the back burner.

I went back and read the post that I wrote on Pepper’s Gotcha Day, and marveled at how cute she was back then.  So shy and timid and sweet…..

So cute!

So cute!

Even back then she hogged the blankets!

Little did I know that I had really just adopted a 12 pound packet of mischief and destruction and never-ending energy, but it didn’t take long for me to figure it out.  The post that I wrote detailing Week 1 with Pepper is still frighteningly familiar.  I had listed “things we need more training on”:

  • house training (although getting better each day)
  • not eating her leash (or Oswald’s) when walking
  • not drinking out of the toilet
  • trying to not chew my slippers, pants, sleeves, ponytail, shoes, or any other form of loose clothing.  Also the bathmat.

As I re-read the list today I had the sudden realization that we’ve made almost no progress in a year.  The only thing we’ve had success with is the house training, as everything else she still does on a regular basis.  Yikes!.

It appeared that by the time I wrote my One Month with Pepper post, I had a better grasp on what I was dealing with.  My favorite part of that post may be:

“Well, I’d love to report that Pepper is turning into a beautiful, wonderfully behaved puppy, but alas, that would be a lie.  She is a monster.  Not an “Oh, you just shredded a stuffed animal all over the living room and now you’re lounging in the fluffy remains” kind of monster like Rupert was, oh no.  This is a full-fledged, maybe slightly possessed, stubborn, weasel, monster of a dog.”

I would say that description was accurate at the time, and although she’s calming down slightly as she matures, I think she’s going to be referred to as the Weasel Dog for the rest of her life.

It wasn’t all bad, though.  We’ve had a busy year full of triathlon training, nursing school, moving three times, and enjoying our Ginger Jogs. Oh, and we got adopted by Ginger Cat. All in all, I’ll mark this year as a success.  Maybe by next year we’ll have grown out of the toilet drinking (but I somehow doubt it).

Plus, she’s still pretty cute.  I guess I’ll keep her 🙂

  1. “She’s a monster” made me snort laugh. Melvin was a monster, I recall the first year went by and I think I cried realizing life was doomed to be me chasing this crazy beast through life. But we found a grove, you will too!
